Vehicle Maintenance Tips To Help Extend The Life Of Your Car

vehicle maintenance

Maintaining your vehicles is important!

For almost every adult, extending the life of your car isn’t just a nice thing, it’s a necessity. In order to keep your car running smoothly during the summer months, there are several small maintenance tasks that you can complete in an afternoon. Here are our best automotive maintenance tips to help extend the life of your vehicles.

Start With Your Tires

Many people don’t think about their tires until they get a tire pressure warning or flat tire. Unfortunately, that’s the worst time to start paying attention! Always check your tires once a week or before taking a long trip to make sure that they are inflated to the suggested PSI for your car. Not sure what the proper PSI for your tires is? Check your car’s owner’s manual or the inside of the driver’s side door. Keep in mind that air shrinks in the winter, so many drivers need to add air to their tires, which are otherwise in perfect condition. The opposite is true during the summer when that air expands. Never drive with over-inflated tires, as you will be at an increased risk of a blowout while driving.

Take It Easy

While this tip is for when you are driving a vehicle and not necessarily “maintenance,” make sure that you don’t drive too aggressively in your car. Keep in mind that how long your car lasts is directly related to the way that you treat it. Obviously, sometimes you need to quickly accelerate or slam on the brakes, but never get into the habit of doing these negative driving patterns. The way that you care for your automotive also includes the way that you drive every single day, so practice driving responsibly.

Check Your Oil

When was the last time that your car received an oil change? Chances are if you don’t know the answer it’s been too long. This is one of the most important things that you can do to keep your vehicle in great condition. Make sure that you pay attention to how frequently your car needs oil changes and take it in before any long trips or drives. As a general rule of thumb, you should get an oil change every time you drive for over 5,000-7,500 miles, depending on your vehicle and the type of oil that your car manufacturer suggests.
